Tower Re-Cladding, Lowestoft College, Suffolk

The project comprised of the improvements of the Tower Building and Frontage/LRC. The project was to deliver a BREEAM Very Good rating for the 1960s six storey Tower block. The thermal performance improvements were achieved with an impressive re- clad façade. The project included:

• ‘Chameleon’ coated aluminium composite rainscreen cladding to upper floors, translucent cladding to first floor, render to ground floor
• Replacement windows
• Mechanical and Electrical modifications including air source heat pump for cooling, sub- metering, ventilation alterations
• Re-roofing work and replacement glazing to northlights
• Concrete repairs
• Internal building works in connection with external façade works, blinds
• Learning Resource Centre replacement glazing and rendering and limited landscaping to College frontage.

A single-contractor tender process was initially pursued but a value engineered solution was implemented, with the College acting as Principal Contractor and engaging a series of specific Trade Contractors.

Allman Woodcock contributed to the tendering process, budget monitoring, tender reporting, fortnightly budget updates for the packages and related works and post contract services.
