Creative Arts Building, Norwich

The 2,600m2 Norfolk Barn-styled building stands within the Campus of City College Norwich. It is clad with timber and has a fully glazed West Façade. The interior is built around a naturally lit central area and is designed with a combination of large and smaller spaces to promote the interaction between students of the different disciplines the building caters for.

Built on three storeys, the Creative Arts Building provides:

  • rehearsal facilities;
  • 3D workshops;
  • dance and acting studios that can connect to a small theatre for larger shows or public events;
  • TV and music recording suites; and
  • Flexible traditional art and design studios that can open up to form loft-like interiors, creating professional gallery spaces.

Not only does the building provide the College with bright open spaces to inspire creativity, it is also designed to be of low energy consumption and consequently of low-carbon which has sucessfully acheived a target rating of 'BREEAM Excellent'.  The ‘green features’ include rainwater harvesting, ground source heat pumps, a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, natural and mechanical ventilation systems and brown water recycling.
